Cantus Mundi Bucharest Fest, August 2

Cantus Mundi Bucharest Fest takes place in Bucharest, at Romexpo, between August 2 - 5. Every afternoon the guest artists will perform together with hundreds of children from Cantus Mundi choires.

On August 2 the Madrigal Choire celebrates its 55th anniversary. Teodor Ilincai and other renowned artists will perform on stage under Ion Marin's baton starting 8pm. The entrance is free.

Don Carlo, Berlin, June 2017

Teodor Ilincai is Don Carlo in a 2011 production at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. He's scheduled to perform in four performances (June 24, 29; July 2, 6) alongside Etienne Dupuis (Rodrigo), Kristin Lewis (Elisabeta), Jamie Barton (Eboli) and Giacomo Prestia (King Phillip).

In none of the opera’s characters does the light of reason sparkle. Prisoners of their situations, prisoners of their own reins of control and of their own making, above all prisoners of a deadly, ever-looming spiritual power greater even than secular hegemony… Verdi captures the essential helplessness of human beings entangled in this network of terror: at best, death brings release.

Concert with Angela Gheorghiu in Madrid, June 30

Teodor Ilincai will join the renowned soprano Angela Gheorghiu in a concert that will take place at Teatro Real, Madrid, on June 30. The program will include arias and duos by Verdi, Puccini and Cilea, among others. Ciprian Teodorascu will conduct the principal orchestra of Teatro Real.

La Boheme and Tosca in Bucharest, November 2017

Teodor Ilincai will be Rodolfo in La Boheme at the National Opera Bucharest on November 18. Iulia Maria Dan is Mimi, Cristina Maria Oltean is Musetta, Alexandru Constantin, Csaba Sandor and Filip Panait complete the cast.
Tosca, in concert version, will be presented on November 30, with Teodor Ilincai as Mario Cavaradossi, Bianca Margean as Floria Tosca and Lucian Petrean as Scarpia.

In conversation at the Romanian Cultural Institute, April 21

The Romanian Cultural Institute in London ground-breaking partnership with The Royal Opera House continues with an event dedicated to Romanian tenor Teodor Illincăi who stars as Pinkerton at the Covent Garden’s delightful “Madama Butterfly”. The evening, chaired by The Royal Opera’s Head Staff Director Amy Lane, features a conversation between the famed tenor and conductor Paul Wynne Griffiths about his beginnings, his career so far and how to make Pinkerton a memorable role. Teodor Ilincăi will perform extracts from “Madama Butterfly” with baritone Gyula Nagy, a member of the Jette Parker Young Artists programme.

The event will take place at the Romanian Cultural Institute (1 Belgrave Square, London, SW1X 8PH, United Kingdom) on April 21, 19:00 - 21:30.

Madama Butterfly in London

Teodor Ilincai will be PInkerton in five performances of Madama Butterfly at the Royal Opera House between April 13 - 25. He will perform alongside Ana María Martínez (Cio Cio San), Scott Hendricks (Sharpless), Carlo Bosi (Goro) and Elizabeth DeShong (Suzuki).

Giacomo Puccini was entranced by David Belasco’s play Madame Butterfly (based on a popular short story by John Luther Long) when he saw it in London in 1900. He harnessed the talents of librettists Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa (with whom Puccini had created La bohème and Tosca) to adapt Cio-Cio-San’s tragic tale for the operatic stage. Although the premiere at La Scala, Milan, in 1904 was poorly received, that same year Puccini revised and restaged the opera for performances in Brescia, to great acclaim. Madama Butterfly quickly became a hugely popular opera with performers and audiences alike, and remains one of Puccini’s most performed works.

Great Tosca opening at Sydney Opera House! Congratulations to everyone!

Royal charitable concert, Bucharest, October 25

On the occasion of His Majesty King Michael's birthday and in the presence of members of the Royal Family, Princess Margareta of Romanian Foundation organizes a concert in which will take part internationally renowned Romanian artists.

This anniversary edition brings together three of the artists that performed along the ten years of existence of the Royal Concert: Remus Azoitei, Alexandra Dariescu and Teodor Ilincai, accompanied by the Orchestra of the acompaniati de Orchestra of the Princess Margareta of Romanian Foundation, conducted by Tiberiu Soare.

The event will take place on October 25 at 7pm at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest. The funds raised through the Royal Charitable Concert will support the Young Talents Program, through which the Foundation offers individual scholarships to support the most talented young artists, from low-income Romanian families.

Tosca opens in Sydney on February 17

Tosca is a war drama that draws you in from the first notes and holds you fast, as a gripping story of love, lust and betrayal that unfolds at breakneck pace.

John Bell's intense production relocates the opera to Nazi-occupied Rome, seeking to recapture the shock Puccini's original audience might have felt seeing a war they remembered, depicted on stage. Bell doesn't want you to watch a tragedy of fiction.

"This is a true story: it has happened many, many times over throughout history, it happened during the world wars, it's happening now, somewhere in the world," he explains. "A tyrannical regime, resistance fighters hunted down, women forced to give sexual favours in order to protect a loved one — these things are still happening, and always have been, during war."

It's a reality we all recognise, that we see on the news: the everyday banality of evil.

The sets are truly awe-inspiring, from the perfect recreation of a Roman basilica, to the cold impassive power of Scarpia's fascist headquarters.

In Tosca, some of the most powerful music in opera must be sung by three powerhouse performers, and here, glorious voices led by Spanish soprano Ainhoa Arteta, Romanian tenor Teodor Ilincai, Italian baritone Lucio Gallo, and conducted by Christian Badea, will make you fall under Tosca's spell.
